U.S. forces struck two Iranian missile launchers on Larak island on Sunday — the first known American military action against Iran since late July, a U.S. official confirmed.

“I can confirm that earlier today U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak island. Islamic ⁠Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz,” U.S. Central Command spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins said.

Tasnim News Agency, which is affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported a drone conducted the strike and at least two people were killed and two others wounded.

IRGC spokesman Gen. Hossein Mohebi said in a statement carried by Iranian state media that the attack was a "fatal mistake by the Trump regime during the economic war" and the enemy "will pay the consequences militarily and economically."

Iran has launched missiles and drones at U.S. assets in the region in response. Explosions have been reported in southern Jordan and Qatar. Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has raised the security threat level and urged residents to remain indoors and stay away from windows and other exposed areas.

The strikes come days after the Trump administration signaled it would prioritize economic pressure over military action to end the war with Iran.
