Greek Energy Chief: Trump Uses Energy Deals as Diplomatic 'Trademark'
Greek Environment Minister Stavros Papastavrou tells Breitbart that Trump's energy diplomacy strategy works as carrot for allies, stick against adversaries.
Greek Environment and Energy MinisterStavros Papastavrou credited President Trump with pioneering energy diplomacy as his signature approach to both allies and adversaries worldwide. Speaking exclusively to Breitbart News in Delphi, Greece in April, Papastavrou said Trump's strategy of using energy as both "carrot" and "stick" has proven effective at creating regional stability.

The Greek minister pointed to Trump's National Energy Dominance Council, chaired by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation under Energy Secretary Chris Wright as key frameworks. Papastavrou noted the council includes defense and treasury secretaries, showing energy's connection to national security and geopolitics.
That's his trademark, and I think it has worked. Energy took a transformative dimension. It has geopolitics. It is totally connected with national security.
Papastavrou highlighted the 3+1 framework between Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the United States as proof of Trump's energy-focused alliance building. He said this cooperation "creates stability in the region that marginalizes extremist behavior and marginalizes threats of unilateral activity."
Greece Partners with US Energy Giants
Unlike other European nations, Greece has fully embraced Trump's energy vision and will begin its first natural gas exploration in nearly 50 years starting early next year. The Greeks are partnering with American energy companies ExxonMobil and Chevron for the ambitious drilling program.
ExxonMobil will explore the Ionian Sea beginning early next year, while Chevron will operate off the coast of Crete, Greece's largest island. Additional natural gas exploration efforts in the Peloponnese region are also set to begin soon, targeting deep water drilling sites around Greek islands.
Papastavrou noted that Greece had not explored its hydrocarbon potential "for decades," making the upcoming drilling campaigns historically significant. The minister emphasized how Trump's approach uses energy deals to advance American interests while creating mutual benefits for allies, as Insider Wire previously reported on Trump's energy-focused foreign policy strategies.
The Greek minister's comments underscore how Trump's energy diplomacy extends beyond traditional adversaries like Iran, Venezuela, China, and Russia to strengthen partnerships with NATO allies through concrete business deals that boost both American energy companies and allied energy independence.
