FBI agents confronted former Rep. Eric Swalwell, who resigned from Congress and dropped out of the California governor's race earlier this year amid these allegations, with a search warrant when he landed at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday, August 15, and seized his electronic devices, including his cell phone, as part of a federal criminal investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct, according to the Daily Mail and other outlets.
The following day, when neither he nor his wife Brittany Watts were home, federal agents executed another search warrant at his home in Northeast DC and seized additional devices related to the sexual misconduct investigation.
At least four women have made sexual misconduct allegations against Swalwell, including a former staffer who alleges the married politician raped her twice when she was too intoxicated to consent, in 2019 and 2024. Swalwell has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct and assault; his attorney has said he intends to pursue "every available legal remedy" against those she describes as orchestrating a "reprehensible campaign of lies." No charges have been filed.
Separately from the federal probe, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department/District Attorney opened their own criminal investigations into Swalwell earlier this year in the wake of these allegations.
