Rep. Andy Ogles says he will file articles of impeachment against a federal judge who blocked the Trump administration from stripping deportation protections from Somali nationals.

"On Monday I will file Articles of Impeachment against Judge Allison Burroughs for her unconstitutional act of Judicial Activism," the Tennessee Republican wrote on X on August 1. "Enough is enough, Americans First NOT 3rd world migrants."

His office laid out the argument to Just the News: "SCOTUS made it very clear that lower courts cannot suspend TPS. Yet, an Obama-appointed judge is defying the Court and the Constitution in an attempt to subvert the will of the President." The judge, Ogles said, "must be impeached."

Burroughs, an Obama appointee on the federal district court in Massachusetts, issued an administrative stay on Friday that stopped the administration from terminating Temporary Protected Status for Somalis. The order came after the plaintiffs filed an amended complaint and an emergency motion earlier in the week, this time built around Fifth Amendment due-process claims. The termination had originally been set to take effect in March, before an earlier order halted it.

TPS lets nationals of designated countries live and work in the U.S. legally when their home country is judged too dangerous for return. Somalia has held the designation since 1991, one of the longest runs of any country. More than 100,000 Somalis live in the United States, though the number actually eligible for TPS is far smaller, estimated at around 5,000.
