Florida Man Shot Woman in Neck, Hid in Pool Before SWAT Arrest

Wildwood Police responded to reports of an argument followed by gunfire around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Officers found the victim lying in a driveway with a gunshot wound to her neck. She was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The victim's mother witnessed Morgan drag the wounded woman back onto the property after the shooting. When she asked Morgan if he had called for help, he allegedly replied, "She's fine," and threatened to shoot her if she contacted police, according to investigators.

Morgan attempted to evade capture by crawling under a partially open garage door and jumping into a backyard pool. Officers pulled him from the water and arrested him without further incident. Authorities recovered a rifle from the garage floor and found blood in the street leading to the home.

Four children were inside the residence during the shooting, adding another layer of trauma to what police described as the latest incident in a pattern of domestic violence between Morgan and the victim. The mother told investigators there was a documented history of abuse.

Morgan faces charges of attempted felony murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a firearm in public or residential property. His prior conviction for felony battery made his gun possession illegal under federal law.

The case highlights Florida's ongoing struggle with domestic violence and repeat offenders accessing firearms. Morgan made his initial court appearance Monday and is being held without bond as the victim fights for her life in the hospital.

Prosecutors will likely seek enhanced penalties given Morgan's criminal history and the severity of the charges. The woman's condition and recovery will determine whether additional charges are filed.
