Parents Face Jail Time for Teen Crime
The summer surge will target "teen takeovers" that have terrorized DC neighborhoods and forced local businesses to close. Pirro blasted the DC Council for "refusing to deal with the problem" and announced a zero-tolerance policy shifting legal responsibility to parents of delinquent youth.
Federal prosecutors will immediately begin charging parents under a DC statute for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Parents who drop off kids at chaotic events, fail to supervise them, or allow them to skip school for illegal activities will face fines, court-mandated classes, and up to six months in jail.
Law-abiding taxpayers should no longer have to pay for parental neglect. Parents, do your jobs or we will do ours. In the end, taxpayers will no longer subsidize the chaos caused by parental neglect.
The tough stance on parental accountability represents a shift from previous approaches that focused primarily on juvenile offenders themselves. The Trump administration has emphasized holding parents responsible for their children's criminal behavior, similar to recent cases involving repeat offenders in other states.
Multi-Agency Federal Response
U.S. Marshals Service Director Gadyaces Serralta joined Pirro at the Friday announcement, emphasizing that multiple federal agencies will deploy personnel and cutting-edge technology to dismantle remaining criminal networks. Officials said the task force is "coming for perfection" in its crime-fighting mission.
