Comedian Jenn Sterger underwent emergency double mastectomy surgery this week after her right breast exploded, the former NFL reporter revealed Friday on Instagram. Sterger, 43, said the incident required immediate surgical intervention and removal of both breast implants.

"Not the implant, the actual breast," Sterger clarified in her lengthy social media post. "I was rushed into the ER and redlined into surgery. It was terrifying. I was literally just meeting people, who that same night would hold my life in their hands."

The Florida State University alumna, known as the "FSU cowgirl" after Brent Musburger spotlighted her during a 2005 broadcast, had been experiencing pain in her right breast for over a month before Thursday's emergency. The surgery was described as an "emergency implant removal, nipple sparing, double mastectomy."

Sterger gained national attention in 2008 when she accused Super Bowl champion Brett Favre of sending inappropriate text messages and explicit photos while she worked as the New York Jets' sideline hostess. The scandal dominated sports headlines during Favre's single season with the Jets.

In her Instagram post, Sterger addressed critics who previously told her that her career depended on her physical appearance. "As a late diagnosed neurodivergent woman, I've lost count of the number of people who told me, you'd be nothing without your breasts," she wrote. "They said, 'Your career will be over.' And maybe they're right. Or maybe, it will just remove the part of my career I've outgrown anyway."

Sterger has not shown signs of reconciliation with Favre, calling his Parkinson's diagnosis "karma" in 2022. "I don't wish bad things on anyone but I know Karma never forgets an address," she posted on her Instagram Stories at the time.

The medical emergency highlights ongoing health risks associated with breast implants, which can include rupture, infection, and other complications requiring surgical intervention. Sterger's case appears particularly severe given the emergency nature of the procedure.

Sterger has since transitioned from sports reporting to comedy, performing stand-up and creating content online. Her Instagram post suggested the surgery represents both a medical necessity and symbolic end to a chapter of her public persona defined by others' expectations rather than her own choices.
