A nurse practitioner at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles posted social media comments expressing disappointment that President Trump survived the April 25 assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner.
Matthew Shaffer, who works full-time at Cedars-Sinai Medical Group since March according to his LinkedIn profile, responded to a social media user who wrote about the shooting, "Someone missed again? Who is hiring these people." Shaffer replied: "Up your game, people."
Medical Center Distances Itself
A Cedars-Sinai spokesperson told Fox News Digital that "Social media postings of individual staff members do not reflect the views or positions of Cedars-Sinai." The hospital has not announced whether Shaffer faces disciplinary action.
The comments came in response to the April 25 shooting at the Washington Hilton, where Cole Tomas Allen opened fire during the correspondents' dinner that Trump was attending for the first time as president. Allen was arrested at the scene after Secret Service agents returned fire.
Shooter Faces Life in Prison
Allen, who graduated from Cal State University Dominguez Hills in May 2025 with a master's degree in computer science, faces three federal counts:
- Attempting to assassinate the president of the United States
- Transporting a firearm across state lines
- Discharging a firearm during a crime of violence
Law enforcement sources told Fox News Digital that Allen wanted to target multiple Trump administration officials in his attack. He faces life in prison if convicted.
The incident follows other cases of public employees facing consequences for social media posts about the assassination attempt. An Ohio teacher was recently fired after posting a video appearing to lament Trump's survival.
This case raises questions about professional accountability for healthcare workers who publicly celebrate violence against elected officials, as Allen's case continues through the federal court system.
